The Colorado Trust is Moving in 2025

Dear friend of The Colorado Trust,

After spending nearly 34 years in the historic building at 1600 Sherman Street, one block from the Colorado State Capitol, our last official day in these offices was Friday, Dec. 20, 2024.

The Colorado Trust first moved into the building formerly known as the Capitol Life Insurance Company Building in January 1991. This is where our staff launched grantmaking initiatives, where we hosted community events and meetings, and where we grew as an organization. The building saw changes over the years, including updates to make it ADA-compliant and multiple cosmetic upgrades. It was designated a historic building, and it housed a time capsule that will not be opened until 2045.

We experienced the good and the bad in this building. (Anyone remember the Great Freeze of March 2002, when a fire sprinkler supply line ruptured and doused our office space with 22,000 gallons of water?) Now, the time has come for us to find a space that better suits our larger staff, committees and grantee partners.

Our fortieth year as a foundation will see us move to the confluence of the River North and historic Five Points neighborhoods. We have signed a new lease for a building at 38th Avenue and Blake Street. The new space will bring all of our staff members together on one floor, and we’ll share the building with other Denver businesses. The facility will have plenty of space for us to host our community and grantee partners, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Our offices in the new building are still under construction, so our staff members will work remotely until they are complete. Our work and service to communities will not be impacted during this transition.

Some logistics: If you stop by the Sherman Street building, we won’t be there to let you in. However, our phone numbers, emails and mailing address (at least for now; we’ll provide the new one this spring) will remain the same.

Regardless of where The Colorado Trust is physically located, we remain dedicated to ensuring all Coloradans have the opportunity to thrive. Thank you for the beautiful memories you helped us create over the decades. We look forward to creating new ones together in our future space.

Sincerely,

Don Mares
President & Chief Executive Officer
