Colorado Health Access Survey (CHAS)
Overview
The Colorado Health Access Survey (CHAS) is the most extensive survey in Colorado of health care coverage, access and utilization. The findings are administered every other year via a random sample telephone survey of more than 10,000 households across the state, providing detailed information that is representative of the 5.5 million Coloradans. The 2015 CHAS provided among the earliest and most comprehensive look at the impact of the Affordable Care Act in Colorado. Results from the CHAS are now available.
CHAS provides information to help policymakers, and health care, business and community leaders more fully understand health challenges and advance shared solutions to improve health coverage and care for Coloradans. The Colorado Health Institute (CHI) manages the data collection, analysis and publication of the CHAS.
CHAS is the only survey that focuses solely on the health insurance status, access to health care and utilization of health care services of Coloradans. Each respondent is asked to give answers for all individuals living in the household, providing a comprehensive understanding of health care issues. Interviewers are able to delve deeply into detailed aspects of each component of the survey by asking tailored follow-up questions about each member of the household. The customized question set is specific to our state, addressing Colorado programs such as Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+).
Learn more about the survey and how to get the data by visiting the CHI website. Please direct questions or comments regarding the survey questions or process to CHI staff.
