DENVER, COLO.—Gwyn Barley, PhD, has been named as Director of Programs for The Colorado Trust. In this new position, Barley is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Program Department’s grantmaking, grants management and policy-related activities to advance The Colorado Trust’s vision to help achieve access to health for all Coloradans.
“I am looking forward to working with Gwyn again,” said Ned Calonge, MD, MPH, President and CEO of The Colorado Trust. “Her work at the University of Colorado School of Medicine was impressive. She achieved great results by bringing together diverse experts and communities to develop and implement large and complex programs. The Colorado Trust is lucky to gain her skills and expertise, as is the broader foundation arena.”
“We believe Gwyn’s considerable experience and forward visioning will complement our team here at The Trust,” said Gay Cook, Vice President of Programs and Strategy for The Colorado Trust.
Barley spent a great deal of her career at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where she served as the Founding Director of the Center for Advancing Professional Excellence. She led this nationally recognized model for innovation in program-specific and inter-professional education and assessment since 1998. She also launched the Department of Medicine’s Student Affairs Office, the Foundations of Doctoring Curriculum and the CU Center for Health Living at Stapleton. Barley is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and the Graduate School.
“I am excited by the opportunity to apply my professional and academic experience by joining The Colorado Trust,” said Barley. “Through cutting-edge grant strategies, collaboration and rigorous evaluation and assessments, we will continue to advance the health and well-being of the people of Colorado.”
Barley received a BA in Sociology from the University of California Santa Cruz. She has an MPl from the School of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Southern California Los Angeles and a PhD from The Heller School for Advanced Studies in Social Welfare at Brandeis University.
