Colorado Health Institute
Overview
The Colorado Health Institute (CHI) was established in 2002 with initial funding from The Colorado Trust and two other foundations, Caring for Colorado and Rose Community Foundation. The founders created CHI to fill gaps in Colorado for impartial health data, particularly related to the uninsured and the publicly insured, and for an unbiased and comprehensive view of the state’s overall health policy needs. The funding The Trust has provided has not only allowed CHI to build service lines and expand its ability to serve the entire state’s health data needs, but also attract a top-notch staff and leadership.
Today, CHI is a trusted and leading source of credible health information, data and analysis for Colorado health care leaders and an important community resource. It provides sophisticated, evidence-based information that can help policymakers reach sound decisions. CHI’s work is used to inform policy, contribute to effective policy implementation and support state efforts to improve health. Its portfolio of work includes publications, legislative support, information requests, community presentations, policy analyses, thought leadership and more.

In 2002, AltaVista was still hoping to topple Google. Kids were obsessed with a new gadget called the iPod. And the Colorado Health Institute (CHI) was founded as a warehouse for health data that wasn’t available anywhere else.
